VISIT -VAIKOM MAHADEVA TEMPLE

This is one of the oldest and famous Siva temples in Kerala. The history of the temple is connected with the legendary Parasurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. One of the most respected shrines of Lord Shiva, Vaikom Shiva Temple is popularly known as Kasi of South. It is believed that if a devotee visits and prays at Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple and Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple on the same day before 'Ucha Pooja' (the noon pooja), his wish will be fulfilled by Lord Shiva. Although Vaikathashtami is the important festival at the temple, there are many other smaller festivals too; some of them are very unique and worth seeing. Vaikathashtami is on the Lunar fortnight of Malayalam month Vrischikam(November/December). On the final day of Vaikathashtami, the deities of the neighboring temples are ceremoniously brought to Vaikom Mahadeva temple.

VISIT-COCONUT OIL EXTRACTION UNIT

Coconut oil, or copra oil, is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). It has various applications. Because of its high saturated fat content, it is slow to oxidize and, thus, resistant to rancidification, lasting up to six months at 24 C (75 F) without spoiling. Here the guests can see all the process of coconut till it is extracted to coconut oil.

Sadhya is a variety of pure vegetarian dishes traditionally served on a banana leaf in Kerala, Sadhya means banquet in Malayalam. It is a feast prepared mainly by men, especially when needed in large quantities, for weddings and other special events. The main dish is plain boiled rice, served along with other dishes collectively called Kootan which include curries like Parippu, Sambar, Rasam, Pulisseri and others like Kaalan, Avial, Thoran, Olan, Pachadi, Mango pickle, Naranga curry, as well as Papadum, Banana, plain Yogurt or Buttermilk, and plantain chips. The traditional dessert called Payasam served at the end of the meal is of many kinds and usually three or more are served.

Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. The guest can watch how the village ladies are extracting coir from husk, processing of coir, weaving etc.

The production Copra by removing the shell, breaking it up, drying. It is usually done where the coconut palms grow. Copra can be made by smoke drying, sun drying or kin drying.
